Of Dogs and Chickens

chicken-0011Sonya was shopping for some good laying hens.  She found some that were supposed to be the very best and paid over $30 for one of them.  A few people were giving her a hard time for spending so much for a chicken.  After going on and on, Sonya had the perfect comeback. “Well, I know some of you have paid a lot more than that for a dog and I’ve never seen one of them lay an egg!”

“First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” (Matthew 7:5)

101_0323Recently China has laid claim to having the largest “supercave” in the world.  They call it the Maio Room.  It is 30 times larger than the old Houston Astrodome.

In 1994 I visited what I would call the greatest “supercave” of all time.  It was a garden tomb in Jerusalem.  It was not the largest hole in the earth compared to others like the Maio Room, but for three days that tomb held the one who took on the sins of the whole world.  Oh, and by the way, the tomb was empty.

“Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, He was buried, and He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

Out of the Darkness

10009286_612275192190288_710321500_nFred, my son Mark and I were deer hunting.  The two of them went one direction from the camp, the first morning, and some other hunters dropped me off in the opposite direction.  When I was through hunting I decided to walk back to camp.  That evening I walked back again.  However, it seemed like I would never get back to camp.

Mark asked me if it was a very long walk?  I said, “Well I can tell you this, son, it seemed twice as far in the dark as it did in the light!”

“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth.” (Isaiah 42:16)

2169As I sat down at home for lunch with my wife, I looked at her, reached over and took off her glasses and said, “Why do you have on my reading glasses?”

“Well, that explains a lot! I’ve cleaned them twice and even turned on more lights and still couldn’t see.  I was beginning to think I needed a new prescription!” She said.

Has a wrong view blinded you to the things of God? Jesus offers sight to all who will see, just like He did for the blind man in John 9:25, who testified, “One thing I know: Once I was blind, but now I see!”

More Garbage?

man_carrying_garbage_bags_on_drive_42-17005190I was hurrying to get the trash can to the street so I would not miss the garbage truck.  Dana was calling out to me to stop. When I turned, I saw she was holding a small bag of garbage in her hand and telling there was a large bag in the kitchen. I was about to put out some garbage, but certainly not all of it.

“But now you must also rid yourselves of ALL (garbage) such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.” (Colossians 3:8)

What’s in Your Hand?

baseballA friend named Danny was coaching baseball at Riesel ISD in the early 1970’s.   During practice one of his players hit a long foul ball that landed where the high school band was practicing.  A trombone player, Joey, picked up the baseball and threw it all the way back past the home plate backstop!  Danny immediately sent one of his players to find the person who threw that ball.  Joey exchanged a trombone for a baseball and became the team’s starting pitcher.  They went on to win the state championship.

Has the Lord placed an opportunity at your feet? Pick it up. He has a great plan waiting for you. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)

Texas Attorney General’s Special Investigations, Fugitive Unit Officers Arrest Suspected Sex Trafficker in Austin

Texas, Wisconsin law enforcement authorities collaborate to recover 16-year-old victim

AUSTIN – The Texas Attorney General’s Fugitive and Special Investigations Units arrested Deondre J. Jenkins, 27, in Austin, on felony human trafficking charges. The victim is a 16-year-old female runaway who the defendant trafficked and forced into prostitution.

The Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) human trafficking investigation into Jenkins originated with a referral from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Based on the NCMEC referral, Fugitive Unit and Special Investigations Unit (SIU) officers identified a 16-year-old runaway girl who appeared to be engaging in prostitution. Further investigation by SIU and Fugitive Unit officers indicated that Jenkins had recruited the young runaway and subsequently compelled her to engage in at least 100 paid sexual encounters. Jenkins retained the proceeds for his personal financial benefit.

According to SIU investigators, Jenkins transported the 16-year-old trafficking victim to Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. Further, he used online advertisements to solicit paid sexual encounters with the girl. After tracing Jenkins’ most recent online advertisement to Milwaukee, Wis., SIU officers – with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety – contacted the Milwaukee Police Department. Based on the information provided by Texas law enforcement officials, Milwaukee police officers successfully located the victim and took her into protective custody. Travis County Sheriff’s Department authorities transported her back to Austin.

Jenkins was arrested Wednesday shortly after he returned to Texas. The defendant is charged with one count of trafficking a child for sexual purpose, a first-degree felony punishable by up to life in prison. Jenkins is currently incarcerated at the Travis County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 bond.

In 2009, the State of Texas took major steps to fight human trafficking by creating the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force. Attorney General Abbott chairs the Task Force, which just issued its 2012 “Texas Response to Human Trafficking” report. On Feb. 12, Sen. Leticia Van de Putte and Rep. Senfronia Thompson introduced new legislation that combined all of the recommendations presented in the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force’s report.

He is Risen!

Mark 16

1: And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him.

2: And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen.

3: And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?”

4: And looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back; — it was very large.

5: And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed.

6: And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him.

7: But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you.”

The 2011 ORWFD “Rolling Thunder” Tribute was, in my opinion, the best yet!  Organized by Wayne Anderson and the Circuit Riders – Mont Belvieu Chapter and joined by other Circuit Rider Chapters. The Silsbee Archangels are always show stoppers on this Annual “Honor” ride!

After crossing the Old River Bridge, the “Tribute” headed to the ORW Community Building where the Annual Motorcycle Contest was held.  If you missed this show and contest is was your loss.  They are magnificent!

Winners were announce under the “Big Tent” and awarded the special Patriot Trophies of the Eagle in Flight surrounded by the American Flag.

Thanks again to the Old River-Winfree Volunteer Fire Department for their commitment to this event and for letting Jamie Anderson ride on the top of the Firetruck where most all these great pictures were taken from.  Thanks Westlake Voluteer Fire Department for keeping them all in line by taking up the rear of the Tribute!

The dedicated leaders are Amanda Jackson, Leila Bates, Dana Guidry and accompanied by Ryan Guidry.

This Ministry serves the Lord through service in the community of Old River Country.

After collecting canned goods for 3 months, the group presented their efforts to the Methodist Food Pantry in Mont Belvieu and stocked the shelves themselves.

They were at the Gibson and Fontenot residence this morning 8-18-11 doing whatever we needed and not minding getting their hands dirty and bearing up in relentless heat and humidity.  These kids are well mannered and willing to work and show their love for the Lord.

For information about getting your kids involved in a righteous cause, just call the church or visit their website.
