Southern Cooking and Hospitality at its best!

Right on FM 1409 in Old River-Winfree, nestled between Simple Simon’s Pizza and Dwight’s Discount Liquor with Hometown Donuts on the end is a GREAT new Hometown Restaurant, Red’s Kitchen.  And boy is the food GOOD!

Charlie Butler is a lady that never meets a stranger and boy can she cook, too!  She has gathered around her a staff of hometown cooks and friendly faces that fit right with her own personality.

Sam, owner of the Sam’s Express stores in Chambers, Liberty, and Harris County also owns the strip mall where you will find all these great businesses.

He has completely refurbished where Old River Cafe used to be and Red’s Kitchen has moved right in and made it their home.

When we got there, the breakfast cook (yes, a breakfast cook) had left and lunch was ON!  They have daily specials and today was the Chicken Fried Steak, french fries, Texas Toast, black-eyed peas, a huge glass of iced tea, and sliced peaches for desert. Yum, Yum.

We were greeted by Susan Garrett Leblanc who we all know and love.   She showed us to a table with that huge Texas smile she is known for and seated us.

After catching up on everything great about Red’s Kitchen, she took our order and off she went.

Who walks in next but Boyce and Mary Morris coming in to check out the new restaurant!  Boyce is Old River-Winfree’s Historian and Historical Artifact Curator.  It was so great to see  Boyce and Mary and catch up on everything in this comfortable, inviting atmosphere!

So, you have got to go and see what you think.
