firechiefFormer fire chief Bruce Corner pled guilty to 10 counts for misappropriation of fiduciary funds in April of this year.

He was scheduled to come before the judge three times now to face sentencing, only to have the decision postponed.

Corner’s next court date will now be on July 12 a move decided by Judge Chap Cain because the pre-sentencing investigation (PSI) report had not been filed in time by the district attorney’s office.

Corner was arrested on Oct. 24, 2012 after 10 indictments were handed down by a grand jury. The indictments detailed Corner using checks from the Anahuac Volunteer Fire Department to purchase tires on two different occasions for his personal truck, to pay for repairs to boat motors on three different occasions, to purchase a game feeder and timer, to pay for repairs to his 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck on three different occasions and depositing fire department funds into his personal checking account.

Former secretary for the Anahuac Volunteer Fire Department, Gale Steward was also indicted for two counts for misappropriations of fiduciary funds by depositing two checks for a total of $1,200 into her personal bank account.

Steward agreed to turn state evidence by testifying against Corner. According to the district attorney’s office an investigation began after an outside audit found discrepancies in the fire department’s bookkeeping.

Corner has served as fire chief for Anahuac VFD for several decades, worked for the county and even served as Mayor of City of Anahuac in the past.
