Sheriff Hawthorne announced that in May, 2013, the Texas Jail Association convened their 27th Annual Conference in Austin, Texas, where Lt Larry Don Cook was elected to the Board of Directors which is a three year term.
The Texas Jail Association was formed on June 4, 1986, in Austin, Texas. The organization’s main objective is to provide a distinct and unified voice for correctional officers working in local jails. TJA’s – membership is comprised of Jail Administrators, Correctional Officers, Sheriffs, Support Staff, and other interested parties of the corrections profession in Texas. TJA currently has approximately 1,500 active members across the state.
The conference is the Association’s annual business meeting and elections for Officers and Board of Directors for 2013-2014. Lt. Cook, a member of TJA for six years, previously served as a Director in 2009 and as Sergeant at Arms in 2010.
Lt. Cook has been in law enforcement and corrections for approximately 28 years, and holds an Advanced Peace Officer and Advanced Jailer Certification, as well as an Instructor’s Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, and has over 2,500 hours in continuing education training. He is a member of the Texas Jail Association, the American Jail Association, the American Correctional Association, and the Sheriff’s Association of Texas.
