25th O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Super Start Batteries, April 27-29, 2012BAYTOWN, Texas (April 18, 2012) – Royal Purple Raceway is offering a special $25 ticket to fans to help celebrate the track’s 25th Anniversary, track officials announced today. The special ticket will be available for advance purchase to fans for Friday admission only to the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Super Start Batteries, April 27-29, the sixth race of the season in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.

Track officials have reported that tickets for the Darrell Russell Top Eliminator Club are sold out, but great seats are still available in the reserved sections of the grandstands as well as for the new “Starting Line Club,” a premium three-day reserved seat ticket that will allow fans to experience the event from close range and provide all holders with members only services such as complimentary food and beverages.

“We are excited about making the $25 Friday ticket available for our fans as part of our 25th Anniversary celebration and the much-anticipated debut of our new Starting Line Club seating option,” said Seth Angel, Purple Raceway general manager. “We’ve sold out the TEC, and there are some great seats still available but they’re going fast. We encourage our fans to purchase their tickets early to be able to select their seat location and take advantage of the discount for purchasing early.”

Angel also says that fans can expect some new technology to assist with their enjoyment of the race weekend. The track has added a second big video screen near the starting line as well as a second set of scoreboards on the face of the drag tower that sits directly behind the starting line.

“We are excited to put these new initiatives into play for our fans,” Angel said. “These two additions will keep our fans near the starting line in the TEC and Starting Line Club better informed throughout the race weekend.”

NHRA’s sixth event of the 2012 season will allow NHRA’s huge Texas fan base an opportunity to see the powerful cars and meet all of the drivers who will be racing at speeds of more than 320 mph in hopes of qualifying for the Countdown to the Championship, the NHRA’s six-race playoff. A win at this important regular season event can mean great momentum as drivers pursue NHRA Full Throttle world championship glory during the 23-event season that crisscrosses the United States.

During the 25th anniversary of one of the major motorsports attractions held annually in the Lone Star State, all of the biggest stars in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series will be on hand to blast their way toward the finish line and keep the fans on the edge of their seats. The 2011 winners of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event were Del Worsham (Top Fuel), Jeff Arend (Funny Car), Vincent Nobile (Pro Stock) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle). The race will be televised on ESPN2HD.

In Top Fuel, Texas native Spencer Massey is making headlines as he has won three of the five races this season behind the wheel of his FRAM/Prestone Top Fuel dragster. In winning this past weekend the Fort Worth driver also set the national speed record at zMAX Dragway with a performance of 332.18 mph. Others to watch in Top Fuel include past Royal Purple Raceway winners Tony Schumacher, Antron Brown and Brandon Bernstein. Morgan Lucas, Shawn Langdon, Doug Kalitta, and another Texas native, Steve Torrence, who was the No. 1 qualifier in Charlotte, have all been running really strong lately and should be in the mix all weekend at Baytown.

In Funny Car, Robert Hight brings a four-race winning streak to Royal Purple Raceway and will try to become only the fourth Funny Car driver in NHRA history to win five consecutive races. In order to accomplish the feat, Hight, who earned his first career victory at Houston in 2005, will have to hold off a strong contingent of talented Funny Car drivers, including the trio he beat in the final at Charlotte – John Force, Ron Capps and Cruz Pedregon –  who are all past winners at Royal Purple Raceway, along with defending winner Arend, Mike Neff, Jack Beckman, Johnny Gray, Bob Tasca, Courtney Force and Alexis DeJoria.

Houston native Erica Enders posted a runner-up finish at Charlotte and is getting closer to capturing an elusive first Pro Stock victory. Last season she made NHRA history by becoming the first female driver to finish in the top 10 points standings in Pro Stock. She now has six runner-up finishes to her credit as she pursues her first win. Series points leader Greg Anderson, who beat Enders in Charlotte, has two victories this season and has won two times at Royal Purple Raceway. Along with those two, four-time Houston winner Jeg Coughlin, defending world champ Jason Line, defending event winner Nobile and three-time event winner Mike Edwards are all among the pre-race favorites in the 200 mph factory hot rod class at Houston.

The race also will feature competition in Pro Stock Motorcycle, where defending world champ Eddie Krawiec will resume his quest to break the 200 mph barrier on his Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson. The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by ProCare Rx also will be showcased at the event.

As always, fans will have the opportunity to interact with their favorite drivers as they’re granted an exclusive pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet.

Full Throttle Series qualifying begins on Friday, April 27 with sessions at 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. The final two qualifying sessions will take place Saturday, April 28 at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Final eliminations begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 29.
