Old River-Winfree Founders Day celebrated the success of the 3rd Annual Founders Day with an Appreciation and Presentation Awards Ceremony held at the November 14th City Council Meeting.

An Appreciation Award was presented by the President of ORWFD, Colleen Fontenot to Mayor Joe Landry and the City Council.

In 2007, when the Old River-Winfree City Government was presented with the vision of a Historic Founders Day and it was brought to a vote, it was a unanimous, “Yes!”  The City provides the behind the scenes necessities of the “Founders Day” that doesn’t get talked about or applauded, but must be provided nonetheless.  A Municipal Government that silently backs its citizens and tries to make this a better town in everything they do.

Old River-Winfree Founders Day then presented the sponsors of each event and those Chairmen that went above and beyond the call of duty with an appreciation trophy.  After that, winners from the Miss West Chambers County Natural Beauty Pageant were crowned by the 2010 Miss West Chambers County, Brianna Walston.

The Pie/Cake/Cupcake Bakeoff Grand Champion and owner of the Cinder Block in Old River-Winfree, Mrs. Ethel Ramsey, was presented with the Grand Champion Bakeoff award and roses for her contribution of scrumptious, award winning entries.

Mrs. Ramsey’s pies are a favorite of bidders at the fun-filled Pie/Cake/Cupcake Auction that follows the announcement of winners and benefits the Wounded Warrior Project and the Pfc Wesley R. Riggs Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The 2012 ORWFD is to be held on November 10.  For more information on Old River-Winfree Founders Day, visit our website at
