MONT BELVIEU – A machete-wielding motorist in a green Ford Ranger truck led authorities on a pursuit Thursday afternoon after pulling into the Mont Belvieu Police Department’s parking lot and inexplicably ramming an empty, unmarked, detectives vehicle.

A Chambers County sheriff’s deputy who later spotted suspect Justin Trevino fleeing on FM 565 to FM 1409, attempted to stop him as he pulled into a mobile home park in the 12700 block of FM 1409. But Trevino jumped out of his vehicle, brandished his machete, and informed the deputy that he would “have to shoot him,” reports show.

The deputy eventually talked Trevino into laying his weapon down. Trevino — age and hometown not immediately available — was taken into custody and placed in the Chambers County Jail. His status was not immediately clear Saturday.

Trevino is being charged by Chambers County with fleeing and attempted aggravated assault of a peace officer, reports show.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is filing a driving while license is invalid charge, and Mont Belvieu Police Department is filing a felony criminal mischief charge, according to Lesa Hegman, Mont Belvieu police administrative assistant.

During the 2 p.m. Thursday incident, there was another vehicle parked next to the detective’s car that was occupied by a dispatcher that was sitting in her vehicle getting ready to leave.  But the report does not indicate the woman was struck or injured.
