Fugitive John Robert McComb has been captured.

The suspect evaded Liberty County Sheriff’s deputies on July 6, 2011 by running into a heavily wooded area where firefighters were battling a blaze near the Liberty/Harris/Montgomery County line convergence on Plum Grove Road.

A statement issued by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday declared the search ended with McComb’s arrest late Friday evening, July 15, as the result of a plan of action put together by deputies and executed in an operation involving the combined effort of deputies, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

“With this combined effort, law enforcement officers were able to locate and capture John Robert McComb, a dangerous wanted fugitive from Liberty and Montgomery Counties,” reads the statement.

“No one was injured as a result of this operation. Additional arrests were made as a result of this joint effort and investigation. The identity of those arrested have not been processed for release at this time, as the investigation is continuing, however, Sheriff Patterson and members of the LCSO wish to sincerely thank members of the combined media and citizens who provided information which was vital to the success of this operation and a peaceful resolution to a long and difficult search.”
